Completion 2011 in collaboration with Rogers Marvel Architects
This 3 story penthouse on Manhattan’s east side incorporates living spaces as well as two roof terraces and a swimming pool. To maximize the usable living spaces of the floor plan and highlight exterior views, the design strategy introduced a centralized volume to house bathrooms, closets, and storage. The volume is clad in Slipmatched Australian walnut and serves as a bold graphic gesture to ground the large living room space. A new cantilevered walnut tread staircase links all three floors and leads up to the roof terrace and pool. In general, we employed a neutral palette as a backdrop for a colorful art collection as well as the captivating views of NYC and the East river.
